M/W/F Magic . . .

We enjoyed re-reading and giggling to the story, The Wizard, The Fairy and The Magic Chicken,  The chicken character was especially funny to the children.  Afterwards, we made our own versions of their wands, a star, a moon or a pickle!  We practiced our skills of gluing again and really enjoyed using glitter!!

Later that day we made a green playdough with a recipe using soap - it smelled nice!

We took part in more seasonal fun by taking inspiration from an idea from Kaden's mom.  We were given a giant caldron of candy corn and many containers.  The children did what comes naturally for their age and poured, scooped and counted the candy corns (see below).  A wonderful sensory/math activity, thanks Heather!

Another, very classic, story we read this week was Caps for Sale.  If you don't know this book (it was written in the 1940's) its' repetitive and, also humorous, story involves a peddler selling many caps he balances on his head.  Later monkeys are involved, who frustrate him - the children enjoy imitating the monkeys.

As you may have heard, my son, Jack had no school Thursday and Friday and helped out in class.  He helped the children to make their own "Caps for Sale" trees.  When we glued our caps on the tree we counted to 5 or 10 to make sure they stuck...

We celebrated Karsten's 3rd birthday by making an orange-milk drink.  We used Jill's electric mixer to make it nice and frothy...

This group really enjoyed this beverage, as you can see from the fun milk mustaches!

At the end of the day, Jack read a story called, The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything.  It was fun to see the children interact with Jack, I think they enjoyed him.

T/Th Explorations . . .
Our two-day a week group is really growing.  I am very proud of their abilities to overcome their transition anxieties and begin to really enjoy one another.  Below, Owen and Camille talk to each other on the "phone."  They love playing house...

We enjoyed making our orange/milk drink a little bit more than drinking it - its all in the process!

Using Jill's electric mixer was the best part...

The weather was so beautiful, we enjoyed looking at and crunching through the leaves on the church lawn.

Suddenly, the children have discovered the see-saw.  They were ready to try it and are doing very well holding on and balancing with each other.

And Zoe is quite skilled at crawling from one side of it to the other!

You might have heard that my son, Jack ( who had no school Thursday and Friday) joined us and helped the children with a few activities.  Below we are pouring, sorting and counting candy corns...

Jack played house with us...

and the kids really enjoyed playing with him on the playground...

Jack tried to show the children how to pump their legs on the swings, Camille was beginning to get it!

And Jack encouraged Owen to pedal on our little trike...

We read The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything at the end of the day.

A very nice week!
